I sold my old intercooled GTD Bus and with the and a bit of spending money I bought a VW T3 Westfalia Atlantic. I’ve one for ages but not been able to one, after the sale of the green GTD bus I had some money and a found what I wanted in on E-bay, duly bit at it and won.

So, the garage being snowed with work I was unable to it so I dropped my friend off at the airport a bag of money and off he went to Germany to me my winnings!

I don’t think of you will have heard of a So a bit of history first..

In the UK, we didn’t get Westfalia campers, all the UK are converted here generaly badly from low spec vans hence me wanting the thing and having to get one from anyway. If you went to a dealer in and asked for a camper you would get the standard Joker model, or the higher spec Club the club joker having seats, double glazing and a few trinkets. In 1988 VW discontinued the and Club Joker (But available from other themselves?]) and replaced them California and Atlantic, the California the lower spec one and the Atlantic the higher spec on, again nicer interior, full kit, double glazing, timer for the auxilliary heating, mirrors etc. I think the is similar to the Vanagon GL camper you but with side planks.

Although, unlike US/Can we could get Turbo Diesels!

The engine is basically a 1.6TD solid lifters and laid at 50 degrees to fit it in the engine bay with a LDA that lays on it#039;s as not to poke through the engine lid and your nights sleep.

Van was a bit (and slow/smokey/uneconomical) when I got it so it had a dose of salts to bring it to a state nearing a good of tune, cam and pump timing bucket and shims adjusted

So, I am running it around at the moment the standard 70bhp lump in it I build a AAZ which came as payment of a job, although the was meant to be a runner I didn#039;t it so I have pulled it in pieces to slight damage to the nose of the

Now, Im not sure how naughty is but the damage didn#039;t seem too bad so I MIGged the damage up and carefully back the mig to close the gap up, ordered a new (the original was a un modded and a new pulley and trial fitted it excellent results (No movement) I do a dead TDI outside the garage I thought I could steal the from if needs be but I am confident in my nose repair (unless has any horror stories about failling?).

I have already a 25 row 235mm oil cooler up front a thermostatically controlled take off in prepaeration of me meddling in the future..

The spec I am aiming for at the moment..

GTD nozzles.

K14 on T3 TD exhaust manifold (I a garret too, not too sure to use)

Bleed valve.

AAZ pump, GTD pump top, mod, 10mm head and T3 throttle linkage.

Oil cooler done)

1Y inlet manifold. like a petrol inlet but has D ports)

Volkswagen Atlantic

Charge cooler.

EGT, Boost, Oil and Temp gauges.

Basically I can this a more or less VW bolt together conversion, I done a few standard ones for using the 1.6TD T3 as a base I will only have to a couple of things to make it

The oil feed pipe for the turbo be made from fresh tube.

The oil return in the back of the will be blocked off and the oil will direct to the sump a#039;la as when the engine is canted to 50 degrees the oil doesn#039;t like to up hill out of the turbo.

I am looking for a charge cooler to sit behind the hand rear light and I have 8 x 8 x 11 to play with, the 1Y manifold will just a 90 degree bend to go to this

A couple of links..

Piccies to

Mods, please feel to move this to another if needs bee, I wasn#039;t sure where I should be it. oops:
