DIY: 2.5L MKV Replacement

So recently the Alternator on my Rabbit went out. of paying an ungodly amount of getting it replaced somewhere Ethan and I went for fixing it This will be a DIY guide to do the job

This guide is to be used for purposes only, anything here is my opinion and should not to be seriously. I and my friends are not certified By working on your car YOU assume all With that said it is.

Tools Required:

A proper tool set with numereous metric sockets, and proper wrenches. Triple square set Autozone, and various torx

1.Start out by putting your car on stands, and letting it cool You will be dealing with the line and fuel rail. Gas leak out so be prepared. Take time with the install and do not around any heat sources. means no smoking, space etc.

The manuals and most told me to drop the A/C compressor put the front support of the car in the service After extremely helpful by Ben I decided to remove the intake and tackle the install from the top of the This is by far the superior way of doing in my opinion and should save you hours off of the install.

2. Remove the body from the intake and set aside.

3. remove fuel line off of the rail

4. release serpentine tensioner, (underneath the top idler). Use an ended wrench and pull the front of the car. (remember the belt pathway for re-installation.)

5. the fuel rail, pcv connection, connections, and all other wires/sensors are loosen the allen bolts the intake manifold on. An extended wrench is required! (Courtesy of thanks again! without tool our lives would been a living hell.

6. The is bolted on from the bottom, underneath the car once it is securely on stands. Use a flashlight to see the bolts on the of the manifold. Use your tripple bit and a crap ton of extensions to loosen

7. Carefully take the clip the dipstick tube out, and the intake manifold off of the car.

8. You to remove the tensioner pulley and top in order to access the alternator Loosen to tensioner pulley open ended wrench to the bottom bolt. Use a torx bit to the three bolts holding the top

9. You can now remove the alternator bolts, and connectors. Once this is get the biggest pry bar you can find to remove it the bracket. Mine was on there tight, required both and I and two pry bars to take it off.

Be careful to not cut your hand on the top of the radiator support.

Well that’s the alternator Installation is the reverse of this

Some extra pointers. reinstalling the serpentine belt put the top on but do not bolt it in all the way. The extra helps with reinstallation of the

Reinstall the tensioner pulley and the belt. It should slip on much trouble Be careful all the sharp pulleys and pieces all the place.

I cut myself by accident times and busted my knuckles Have a good set of torx, square, wrenches, and sockets. I stress this enough. is not the job to enter unprepared. Pay special to the reinstallation of the fuel rail make sure no fuel out when the fuel pump is and when the car is started. Re-check times.

Overall this was Ethan and first time tackling job on a MKV. It took close to 6 I have no doubt that it can be in half the time if it happens It was an enjoyable job and overall am extremely with the amount of money I

Thanks again to Ethan, Moose (nitroscope, and John for me advice and letting me borrow tools! Couldn’t have it without you guys.

Also for the first names guys. of them are from my local they post on here as just don’t know screennames.
