How To: Keep Your Sunroof Flowing Well

July 31, – 8:30 am by Dan Volkens

Not keeping sunroof drains flowing result in a wet, stinky and a hefty repair bill.

and clearing your sunroof is a really easy How To. Anybody a sunroof SHOULD do this on a basis. I recommend checking sunroof drains each you either wash your car or the interior.

and some change to have the cleared and the carpet in my passenger footwell cleaned up. Now, I that one can clear a clogged by running a flexible rod or something down through the drain. I didn’t want to deal it. And making a mistake, like the drain line or accidentally it, entails tearing apart the to fix. On the bright side, I had do the brake light switch while I was there.

Step 1: Locate Drains

the drain holes and the nipples. There are a total of four two front, two rear. The front empty out inside of each door jam as you can see in the photo below. The drains empty out inside of the bumper (on most MkIV To check the rears, you will to reach up inside of the extreme and righthand sides of the bumper and your way around.

Drain holes

Step 2: Drains for Cloggage

You can clear of the gunk and garbage out of each by squeezing, twisting, and performing any questionable action on each nipple. I would not recommend it because as you squeeze it, dust, and/or water (if it was slightly will fall out of the drain. this How To is going downhill lol)

Step 3: Test Drainage

Once you have sufficiently each drain, grab a glass of water (only a amount of water is needed, a 1/4 cup) and slowly… sloooowwwlllyy… the water down each to see if it flows freely out of the nipples.

4: Do Your Happy Dance

If the worked in testing, you should be to go. Doing this on a regular should help avoid any water leakage. If the front are clogged, typically they down the bottom sides of the and onto the footwells. If the rears you’ll see water damage all your C pillars and roof. the fronts clog more than not.

If this is the first time doing this, and your isn’t relatively new, I recommend doing this How To and it checked out at your local or shop. The peace of mind is it.
