First things first. I am new to VW So please forgive anything I say that is in error! Know every statement I make is of a question than a statement!!

I have known the early VW rabbit diesels 45+ mpg for years! I love it when so starts talking about great gas mileage his hybrid and isn’t modern technology At which point I point out VW was getting 45+ mpg back in the early 80s all the whiz-bang high tech They always get a very look on their face!

I to get a late 70s or early early 80s VW to offset my monthly gas bill. with the world today who We may be paying $5/gal this So I figured I better get on it ASAP! my Rabbit research I came the Dasher. I remember these and how roomy they were! 6’4 so I need the leg room, and I have a big dog so I could make use of the wagon option.

1) Find a manual shift diesel for sale that no work and is ready to go. If that is the than my story ends and no need to read further. But I am towards option 2

Option 2) Find a manual Dasher that may or may not run by has a clean and interior. At this moment I am towards option two because I want to get my hands dirty

I use to love on cars when I was younger and I am working on cars with that is pre 1985ish. In that to that, I could open the of a car and not only identify everything the hood but have a good of how it works. But cars after Not so much. Just to many ECM for my liking. I would probably opt by a long block, but do the installation

me if I am wrong, but most early 80s came with the 1.5L And correct me if I am wrong the but the turbo didn’t even come out around 1895ish? With said. What would it to pull out the 1.5L diesel and it with a 1.6L turbo or even a 1.9L turbo My biggest concern would be the ECM stuff, if any. Based on I have found out thus far is limited) there is not ECM stuff to about, and not big electric harness to worry about. But. I don’t know! This is the reason I am here today to get experience feedback on that. Any and all would be greatly appreciated. any electrical associated with the I think the answer is no?

I did that the engine in the Dasher is NOT mounted, which tells me none of the Rabbit or other VW would work in a Dasher. that said, are there any company that rebuild transmissions? Note I really a manual shift, not an automatic, and I really like a 5 speed if ever made one? As you all know the parts for Rabbits are lots of after market and plenty of online trany to choose from. So this transmission stuff does to be the one thing that may be hard to if needed a few years from

I was looking at the options at and it looks promsing. Any feedback on would be great! I also a few online places. ATKVege I bought an ISUZE engine years ago, that pretty well. But I also this company called GEX appears to be dedicated to VW engines,

To do transmissions too. Nice web very well laid but, when I called and ask about doing an engine i.e. a 1.5L for a 1.6L The guy on the phone seemed kind of So any feedback you have on this would be great, and any advice you on any other motor and trany re would be welcomed too!!

Anyway, thanks in advance!!
