In Volkswagen released the Mk I Golf on the public as a replacement for the nearly 30 old Beetle. It was originally designed as a people mover like the but over the last 25 years, has into much more, or has it?

one could argue that the GTI of the Golf, especially the Mk IV “R32” are some of the most satisfying cars on the road, which is why people have owned generations of the hot hatch. But what the base Golf? Does trickle down from the GTI to the that even the more versions of the car can be more than people movers? Or, to put the question simply, can a base Golf me smile?

Our test car is the $21,000 base (Mk VI) Golf 5-door, which, the exception of the 3-door version, is about the cheapest way out of a VW dealership. powered by a 170hp, 2.5 liter, engine mated to a 6-speed transmission.
