QA: Need to replace housing When to change timing

Q: My daughter has a 2007 Ford with 100,000 km on it. I wanted to the air filter element and learned I would have to replace a housing unit including the costing approximately $480. My is, is there something less I can do? Any help would be beneficial. By the I learned the 2008 model back to the $20 filter system.

A: The Focus uses a Zero Long life filter is a sealed multi-stage foam design and includes a filter indicator on the system. This is an to manufacture design and Ford went back to the simpler in 2008 simply to save when building the cars.

The filter unit has undergone testing and will in most likely outlast the life of the Even when driven on gravel roads, the filter has tested extensively by the Society of Engineers and showed less to airflow at high mileage a new conventional replacement type has when it is new! Testing at intervals of over 250,000 km showed the filter unit was working as good as a new, low replacement-type filter element.

While you could go to a wrecking and get a complete system off a 2008 car and your vehicle to install it, I leave the extended life in place and only change it if the indicator shows there is too restriction. Even then, you likely get a used one from a low Focus at a salvage yard and some money if you didn’t to buy a new one.

Q: I drive a 2008 Golf. I purchased mine driving my girlfriend’s 2007 a year earlier. I loved so much, I just had to have one of my My question concerns the timing I’ve been told if it breaks it will be very to repair. The opinions that I gotten so far are if you change it at 144,000 km, the will be $ 600. If you wait it breaks, it will bend the and then you need a new motor. $

At one dealer I’ve been that if the belt breaks, the car just stop, and then you tow it in and put a new on. No danger of bent valves. At dealer, I was told that you have to check it at various intervals. No change necessary it is frayed or looks bad. At Old Volks , they say change it at kilometers, period.

That would mean my girlfriend’s Golf is due, as it has 145,000 km. Mine has 115,000 .I really like to have thoughts on this belt .

A: In Canada, the 2007 and Golf were sold as the Golf’ and came with a 115 2.0 litre gas engine. These are to in the repair industry as interference which means if the timing breaks it will in almost all bend the valves and be an expensive repair. Most engines in vehicles are interference designs to emissions and improve performance.

The 2.0-litre engine maintenance states the timing belt and roller should be replaced at km. At 96,000 and 128,000 km, the belt be inspected. At 144,000 there is no of timing belt service or in the Volkswagen maintenance schedule.

of the differences in recommendations you are getting be because of different timing change intervals on different VW For example the 1.9 and 4.2 Litre engines have the belt change at km and older 2.0-L engines had schedules.

As for inspecting the belt, for oil contamination from leaks or any cracks in the belt. Usually will break suddenly little visual clue to failure. Changing them at intervals is cheap insurance.
