Volkswagen is now so fond (perhaps some sarcasm there) of vehicles that it’s not one, but two plug-in versions of the VW

Volkswagen e-Golf – Note: a Plug-In Hybrid Version Too

First up is the e-Golf, a pure version that will in the US in late 2014 .

Though its remains a mystery, the e-Golf has some fairly positive and it’s out belief that if priced reasonably well and nationwide, it could be an immediate

Next is the plug-in hybrid Volkswagen has not yet committed to a timeline for this version in the US, though we are it’s coming.

The plug-in Golf is still in the prototype though it’s nearly in form now and likely only some tweaking to powertrain ( i.e. engine cut in, mapping, etc.) before it’s to go.

We’re well aware of it’s like behind the of the e-Golf, but what’s it like to the plug-in hybrid version?

For an to that, we need look no than a recent Autcar of the VW Golf plug-in hybrid, but let’s look at the known

e-Golf Interior – We Suspect the Plug-In Hybrid’s Will Look Very

“The new Volkswagen Golf Hybrid is the result of what the car maker describes as its most new model project to date – in scale and funding than any petrol or diesel engine

“By adopting elements of the less-advanced system used by the American-market Hybrid in combination with its in plug-in know-how, Volkswagen has the first series production Golf with an impressive of performance and economy, including the to operate purely on electricity for a distance.”

“…Among the developments is a mechanism to permit drag coasting. Volkswagen considers a more efficient use of kinetic than the recuperation systems by rivals.”

“The efforts of the petrol and electric motor endow the Plug-in Hybrid with convincing performance properties a 1530kg kerb weight above any existing Golf It is not quite in the same league as the GTI for outright accelerative ability, but a claimed 0-62mph time of it is not far away.”

“Solid reserves of from the get-go provide step off qualities away traffic lights and a flexible to the delivery on the run, making the new completely fuss free to Mechanical refinement is excellent, excellent cruising ability longer journeys.”

“…Less satisfactory is the ride, in the early pre-production version we proved quite firm, the overall compliance and fluency of recent Golf models.”

The hybrid Golf is expected to in the UK in mid-2014.  It likely won’t its way to the US until sometime in 2015.  or not it sells well will on its price, as well as its price in to the e-Golf.  Which one will more?  It’ll be tricky for VW to these two near-simultaneous launches off success.  In fact, VW is venturing uncharted waters here as no automaker has ever launch a BEV version alongside a PHEV of the model at nearly the same
