2013 Volkswagen GTI Review – A fun for an awesome price

After in the amazing city of Los Angeles for some time,  I finally to take a big wad of cash and throw all of it a new car; that car ended up the 2013 Volkswagen GTI (MKVI As I usually do my reviews a bit differently, let me start off by saying what I was looking for in a car and how the 2013 Volkswagen GTI was suited for me.

What I needed in a car

I a  reliable car  that I  drive to the ground  and love for years to come. After and riding in a good chunk of cars, I knew I could not go with a GTI.

I was  for a fun, daily driver doesn’t mind a steel at times, because no one will at buying a GTI without having a bit of fun.

The  best for the buck . MPG, hands-free auxiliary in/iPod connector, and I go on, but you get the point.

I wanted a manual transmission . not all cars nowadays are made for

And lastly,  a car that just good . I was seriously considering the Focus ST, but after seeing and one, I was not impressed.

What the 2013 GTI delivered me

A Fun Driver

We all know it, but the GTI is without a an enthusiast’s car. What I about the GTI is it’s practicality; the I bought, the base 4-door, tons of trunk space even the  back are habitable . unlike many  hot hatches that are in the back. But as it is indeed a GTI, it a steel foot is such a sound after hearing the boost kick in (with turbo lag). I’m a believer of aspirated cars, but the turbo in the GTI is you have to hear in person; incredible… and you get better gas milage turbo. Win win.

With the 6-speed manual it makes the entire experience awesome. Sure, a DSG GTI is super fun to as the shifting is unbelievably fast with its clutch gearbox, but I personally it ruins the fun out of shifting between the old-school way. And the 6-speed in the GTI is so fun to  I always smile while ; besides, the manuals are more

I also took my GTI through windy access roads many mountains and was surprised how torque steer it actually if any. Throughout the entire up the mountains, I not once thought I was to loose control of the car, after taking a few turns a more faster than Average Joe.


instagram.com/p/cDXyIzyQy-/ ). Granted, the 32.5MPG was by having it in 6th gear/overdrive for quite time. If you dropped it down any of a gear, you wouldn’t be able to get and trust me, if you drive and shift at RPMs, your MPG rating be pretty.

You do have to keep in mind VW does recommend to put in premium however, the good thing premium fuel is that it not only make the car just a wee bit it’ll also give you gas milage (I would never about putting low-grade in my GTI, as the last thing I is my engine knocking).


the 2013 GTI is amazing. The brake calipers are red straight from the factory, the wheels look unique admit it, I was not a fan of them at first, but now I ‘em), and everything is just The car even features dual (sadly not true dual with two shiny chrome on both sides of the car. And forget the honeycomb front with red accents and a silver GTI

On the inside, the red/grey plaid seats you of the older GTIs  and bright red stitching throughout the car the interior so nicely, that it adds a warm welcome time stepping into the And if you pick up the Monster Mats. a red GTI logo on both the driver and side mats (which is a touch as the GTI logo is not used when you’re inside the the only other place is on the wheel).

The Gadgets

Being a tech the gadgets and other features into the car were quite to me. Immediately after I got in the GTI after the sales guy helped me connect my to the car’s system via Bluetooth; in a few taps, I was streaming Pandora to my car a huge Pandora Spotify I was already in awe, as my music is an thing to me. A few days I received a call while and was able to seamlessly answer it crystal clean audio. The audio has had no hiccups once so that I’m rather surprised as I thought I’d hear at least skipping… I was proven wrong.

Sure, there’s also XM in the car, built-in auxiliary MDI cable to plug your into (I use it in conjunction with to charge my phone), and lots of goodies available on the dash to track of your driving.

and if you’re wondering, the stock system actually sounds good! But if you are looking for more you may want to upgrade them, as don’t pack that of a punch; it’s plenty for a car though in my opinion.

It’s not though

Luckily, there are a few annoyances I have with the GTI:

The hill holder (only for the manuals obviously) can be a bit at times. For example, if you’re in and on a uphill, you’d expect to backwards with only the in. It would just be nice to the hill holder feature disabled in reverse, as it’s me off multiple times.

The MDI cable is not enough! I had to buy an extension cord to my phone reach out further so I can charge my phone and get directions at the time via Google Maps (I use a ). I know VW does it for a safety but seriously, it’s not helping .
