the success of the Landrover in the years WWII, the Rover Company was pressure to increase exports and production, unfortunately it was short on capacity. In 1951 in Belgium, the newly re-established Societe Minerva SA company, which had a producer of luxury vehicles the war, gone broke and out by it’s government to produce vehicles, found itself assembly facilities at one of it’s sites at Mortsel, Antwerp. for the contract to supply the replacement for the Army’s ageing jeeps but resources to develop it’s own from scratch, they Rover. After lengthy it was finally agreed that would build it’s own of the Landrover, using CKD (Completely Down) chassis and other Production started in 1952, the was well received and the order was increased. This was not to last, with the relationship between the two suffering, finally ending in to terminate the arrangement in mid 1958. By time, Minerva had developed own all-terrain vehicle, the ‘Tout Soon after this, went to the wall again, time for good.

Between late 1951 and it was assembled in quite large and supplied to the Belgian Armed Police and eventually even to the user. Essentially the Minerva was the vehicle as the Series One 80 inch, but some very important and significant differences, the main one an all steel body of quite gauge. The most obvious is the front wing shape, off and sloping, quite unlike the round fronted Landrover The front grill was narrower and a red and black Minerva badge. openings on either side of the grill were covered by oval panels. There was no tailgate, the body having a solid, two height back panel. was no PTO opening in the rear cross and no external handles on the steel At some point a special version was produced with plating, protected grille, mounted spare wheel, glass aero screens and gun mounts front and rear. sources suggest marginally than 9000 were with the military taking iunder 8500 and the remainder to government agencies through the network. In 1985 when the (VW Iltis) entered service the Belgian Army, there still 2492 serving
