For years wanted a Syncro Westy and a few ago I was lucky enough to pick up a low mile (47K) one owner 90 My father and I split ownership on the and decided to build it up to be our camping

I’ll add photo’s of the process as I modifying and doing maint on the We decided on a list of items we wanted to add/change to fit our plans.

I changed the fuel lines, reg, plugs and wires and the engine runs like a But. Looking for reliability and a more HP for high elevation we decided to do a engine swap. doing quite a bit of research we on the Subaru 2.5L. My wife a forester with this so I’m well familiar it (rebuilt the heads etc a couple ago).

Conversion Kit: I decided to go the Rocky Mountain Westy I like the design of the engine exhaust system, etc. wait to start the installation more to follow soon.

Items: Install a Propex Upgrade the cooling lines, suspension and shocks, install a SA Bumpers/Tire Carriers and other misc items.

Here’s a pictures of the Westy in stock

A couple weeks ago I picked up the of the big parts, a 2006 Subaru with all the needed parts. The has 60K miles on it, I will go ahead and a new timing belt, water idlers etc while the engine is on the Yikes! 41lbs of wiring!!

More goodies arriving. the Fox Shocks and new 16 wheels/BFG’s.

6-22-12 suppose to be working on a couple projects today. but I woke up and was able to sneak in a little play 🙂 Decided to get the new tires to see what they looked I won’t be driving it much the engine/suspension gets installed so the tires shouldn’t be a problem for

The original owner had the vehicle when they bought it, it did a decent job in keeping corrosion at bay the bus. It did spend quite a bit of in Alaska on gravel roads so is some rock chip along the bottom rocker I’ll be addressing that we get all the upgrades installed.

Nice little lip forming on the looks like new rotors be in the works. I’d like to do a big upgrade, might just stock for now and do that down the

Not Bad. can’t wait to see it the new suspension bits installed!

Windows. I’m not a huge window fan in older vehicles, we purchased the Syncro the passenger window wasn’t working, the drivers side was working Fast forward a month and windows were inoperable. To matters worse the AC is out of charge and I want to spend time it till after the Subaru Eventually I’m going to the power windows with units. now it’s in the 90’s and needs to be done!

I decided to remove the drivers regulator and have a look at going on.

Door Panel

Plastic removed. There are good threads on regulator on Samba. Thanks!

All the plastic look to be in excellent cond.

And here’s the problem. The rivet that holds the black guide on the bottom of the regulator. The piece is in great shape. might be a easy fix!

All here.

And here’s the problem. the rivet broke it allowed the on the cable to relax. allowing the to turn itself into a nest! The cable is shot. All the parts in the gear box seem to be in shape.

I took the assy to a bike shops today to see if could make another for it but they couldn’t. after a little looking at some supply shops I think I be able to make up my own cable. All the that I found was slightly than the OEM cable, and I couldn’t any cable ends/crimps that small enough. I’ll try and my own ends and solder them to the
