Will the US Get The Volkswagen Up! or Mercedes

Are people willing to pay – comparatively speaking – for less Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen think so, especially if car happens to be electric.

The vehicles in are Mercedes-Benz’s B Class Electric and the Volkswagen Up!  The big deal these little cars is they increase just a bit the variety of electric vehicle By making them available, the help validate and advance the technology of electric vehicles

So just how do these bantamweight EVs up? We’re not 100-percent sure since there is still question as to whether any version of the Up! would ever be available in the States. What we do know is both cars look sharp inside and out, and pricing, though still should put them in closer of would-be electric owners.

Here’s the nitty gritty so far on itty bitty cars.

B Class Electric Drive

The B Class Electric Drive electric car enthusiasts one more in the marketplace.

A small, mini-van-like powered by a Tesla-supplied electric

134 hp with 255 ft-lbs of torque

mph (0-100 km/h) in “less 10 seconds,” per Mercedes Benz

of about 115 miles (varies on driving style)

The good: definitely coming to the United in 2014; packed with and innovative touches

The bad: as a you’ll pay for all that sophistication and branding through the nose; it makes EVs seem all the more

Volkswagen Up!

Volkswagen has added to its Car-title winning Up series an electric version, the e-Up.

first all-electric car (gasoline and gas versions available too)

Volkswagen up!

80 hp motor with 155 lb-ft of

Acceleration – 0-60 mph (0-100 “within 14 seconds,” per Volkswagen

up to 93 miles

Pricing is still (non-electric version starts at $13,000)

The good: it’s electric, and the gasoline versions are fuel-efficient; public response has largely positive – Up was named World Car of the Year

The bad: don’t expect in the Americas any time soon; said it has “no immediate plans” for the U.S. market – though have been known to their minds on such

It’s a hard concept for (though not all) U.S. to understand, though it seems easily grasped abroad: aren’t intended for the long-haul, freeway and interstate schlepping commonplace in the United States. meant for the tight-quarters, stop-and-go, urban warfare kind of … that’s commonplace in U.S. and metropolitan areas all over the

Neither the B-Class Electric nor the Up will set the EV performance books on and that’s precisely the point. are two cars that, like the Leaf and the Smart fortwo Drive, quietly go about business while freeing owners from the financial and the personal, ethical chains come with our use of petroleum.

your take? Would it be shelling out a little extra for an drive car up front, versus the financial and other costs of a car over time?
