Volkswagen Oil Consumption

Q. Hi Vince: We noticed a few letters and messages from regarding excessive oil consumption on late model Volkswagen and wanted to add our experience. We noticed all the net after already purchasing our Volkswagen Jetta GLS with the 2.0 4-cylinder engine.

The engine that seems to have so Volkswagen drivers up in arms apparent excessive oil consumption.

As a result, we were already and expecting problems and sure we did notice that we were way too much oil between changes, 3,000 miles.

My husband an old timer Volkswagen expert from where we grew up and him up to inquire what he knew it. Jerry has been as close as and is one of the brightest and truthful people known over the years.

He my husband that the tolerances on the 2.0 engine are set that loose on and that the little engine is one of the durable and reliable Volkswagen has made. He told us to simply the recommendations in the manual and use 10-40 oil and the problem would never be a again, just like it have been in the first

Well, my husband started an oil with the recommended viscosity, and enough, the problem has never itself. Even close to the 100,000 mile mark, we keep cars close to that mileage, oil consumption has again been a problem and the car seems to run as good as it did when we drove it.

Oh yes, O2 sensors have an annoyance. and the fact that the belts are of such poor is disappointing, but there are problems all brands and we never seem to get to point of perfection in any car we’ve had.

Anyway, we don’t that excessive oil consumption is one that Jetta drivers have to lose sleep if they’ll simply read the instructions.

Thanks for all the great articles in the forum.

Sharon

A. Volkswagen using a 5W-40 oil in the 2.0 liter That’s from the factory manual. In addition Volkswagen, acknowledges an oil consumption problem in all oil consumption complaints are evaluated and to Volkswagen engineering for final

I’m happy to see that using a 10W-40 has solved the but I have to think that if the were that easy, why Volkswagen simply change the oil specification?

Building anything to a loose can sometimes be a good thing, ask anyone who carried an M-16 in Nam, but in an engine, loose either built in or as a result of usually results in oil consumption. A oil simply masks the problem, it cure it.
