A New Mid-sized German Sedan Exclusively for North American

Full Review of the 2014 Passat TSI

We’ve had the great of driving and reviewing many of the from the long standing automaker, Volkswagen. We drove, and liked, last year’s CC Plus which we felt was an handsome and nice day to day sporty We were also lucky to get our hands on the new VW Jetta last which surprised us on how much we the overall driving experience though it’s built to be a offering than previous Jetta. Now we’re driving the Passat. This vehicle is built to a lower spec to be affordable. The car we get here in the U.S. is exclusive to North America and is a different vehicle than the one in the European market. VW has built for us a and seemingly more dumbed-down The CC we drove last year is closer to the European Passat as it shares most of the interior and So with all of this deviation a vehicle we really liked and to what VW thinks we should what did we really think this car?

The exterior styling isn’t much to get excited about. The way I can describe the looks of this with a nice spin, is it’s elegant and restrained. all the mid-sized sedans coming to like the Sonata, Optima, and the Fusion, this sedan seems bland and already I’ve heard others, who’ve express a desire for the as it should age better without a modern design language. I disagree, but design is something speaks to people individually.

The front-grille is unmistakably Volkswagen its chrome, horizontal bars. The view is mostly bland, it does give away at this car’s actual as the trunk protrudes far beyond the tires. All the lines are clean and but there’s really no flare

One thing VW has always done is a nice interior. The interior in car reminded me more of the Jetta we last year than the CC. being said, they done a good job at disguising is cheap and what is not. The are wrapped in real leather Dinamica inserts which can with temperature in hot and cold The dash is super simple a basic infotainment display functions well, but is lacking in The instrument cluster is nice and to read and while the driver display is usable, it also is dated looking. One of the biggest the interior of this car has going for it is The Passat can brag about its rear legroom and there’s no it. The trunk is pretty massive as

Under the hood of our tester was a TSI engine. This setup 170-horsepower and is matched up to a 6-speed transmission. This is basically the engine setup, but it actually pretty well with vehicle. Power delivery was for day to day driving and we were able to just over 30-mpg. The EPA this setup at 24-mpg and 35-mpg highway.

Of course, VW is known for their diesel and you could have a Passat with one. If you opt for the TDI, be getting the 2.0-liter, 140-hp with a DSG gearbox. The EPA rates vehicle at 30-mpg city and highway.

If you’re looking for more out of your family sedan, you can opt for the 3.6-liter FSI V6 which pushed a 280-hp and also comes a DSG gearbox. This option, will leave you a little satisfied when it comes to economy. The EPA rates the V6 at 20-mpg and 28-mpg highway.

As I alluded to our test car seemed to handle the day to day fine. There was no need to the accelerator pedal to the floor and for some tire squeal; car is more about getting family from point A to B as safely and efficiently as possible. I say VW has achieved their goal The chassis felt sturdy and but the ride was noticeably comfortable. All being said, it did still me wanting. I wanted a more design, more technology, and features, but to get those you’ll to look elsewhere.

You can pick up a S model with a price of just $20,995 and our stickered out at $26,995. If you’re to go all out, you can easily get the price $34k with a Premium

If you’re cross-shopping the Passat, definitely want to take a at the new Ford Fusion. This is one of the best looking mid-sized on the road. It is also packed of tech and luxury that you not expect from Ford. The Sonata and Kia Optima are also good choices and both with great warranties. Of if you’re a fan of the Germans and you really a better looking German the CC is always another way to go.
