EDITOR’S JONATHAN GLAZER

Jonathan one of the best commercials directors of all has a new feature film out. a sci-fi thriller called the Skin” and stars Scarlett as an alien who preys on men in Glasgow. Our Michael Weinzettl revisits his as an advertising director.

Winning reviews from critics, the Skin, has been hailed by as a masterpiece. Loosely based on a by Michel Faber, it was written for the by Glazer and Walter Campbell.

The latter is of course another name from the ad world. with Tom Carty, Walter was part of the famous duo at AMV BBDO that gave us such ad as Dunlop “Tested for the Unexpected” the series of Volvo spots included “Twister”, all of those by Tony Kaye — as as all those epic Guinness that came out in the late noughties, chiefly among of course those by Jonathan

The first commercial directed by him to be featured in Archive was a 1996 for Club Med by BBH London (Glazer was doing ground-breaking work in videos at the time for Massive (Karmacoma), Blur (The Jamiroquai (Virtual Insanity) and (Street Spirit).

Next in our Online Archive we Glazer represented in 1997 three outstanding and multi-award commercials, one for Nike’s Moments” by Wieden Kennedy, one for VW Polo, “Protection”, a classic now and in our 2012 interview with its AdamEveDDB’s Jeremy Craigen as as the Levi’s “Kung Fu” for BBH London.

1998 saw Glazer the Stella Artois “Last commercial for DLKW Lowe and in 1999 he followed this up what is his most famous as a commercials director: Guinness which became the most commercial of all time. (It picked up two DAD Pencils, a Gold Lion at and the top spot at most of the other festivals of 2000.)

In the Noughties Glazer directed one commercial after another: “Dreamer” for AMV BBDO again in Levi’s “Odyssey for BBH in 2002, in Stella Artois “Devil’s and “Ice Skating Priests” for Lowe, as well as Barclay’s starring Samuel Jackson for

In 2004 Glazer’s second film was released; the American drama “Birth” starring Kidman as a woman who gradually convinced that her deceased has been reincarnated as a ten-year-old To me as well as many critics the was a mesmerising experience with from it playing in my head to day but it flopped at the box office, probably due to a lot of people perceived as a sensitive matter.

Glazer continued his commercials until today, outstanding from recent years are Tango in Compton” for VW Polo “The Ring” for Audi and of course a recent Spot of the on our website, the Nike Football heralding the World Cup this
