This is not to be a full ‘how to’, but to give enough information to a competent DIY-er to decide or not to undertake repair of the ABS/ESP following a ‘G201 sensor in the ABS/ESP hydraulic unit. The is taken from German and I’ve translated it into I assume that the repair sold in the UK will come English instructions, so just the are given here.

Repair kit 1K0 698 517 B Suitable as a replacement for the hydraulic

1K0 614 517 B, C, D, E, H, J, M, N, Q, T, AA, AB, AE, AF; 3T0 614 517, 3TO 614 517 A and 2K3 614 517

Access to VCDS or tool.

Pressure bleeding kit Gunson’s EazyBleed).

ESP light on irrespective of ESP switch position.

Open the braking and go into Measurement Block 5 to the brake pressure recorded by the sensor. The value of the brake should be proportional to the pressure on the pedal. When the brake just illuminate the value of the shown in Measuring Block 5 not be more than 4 Bar. If it is, check the brake light and/or perform a ‘Basic on the pressure sensor (see If the pressure reading is stuck at a value, irrespective of the pressure on the pedal, then the G201 has failed and you need to get the repair

battery earth lead and battery if it makes access to the ABS easier (depends on model).

the electrical connector from the ABS

Open the front-left and rear-right bleed nipples.

With a wedge the brake pedal 60mm down from its position (this is to close off the to the master cylinder).

Close the previously opened nipples.

Take a picture/drawing of the of the brake pipes as they to the ABS unit.

Remove the brake from the ABS unit — the two pipes that enter and then the four pipes enter vertically.

Using the supplied with the kit, off the ports in the ABS unit to avoid spillage.

Pull upward and the ABS unit out of its holder and remove the car.

Now replace the hydraulic with the new one supplied in the repair kit this is simple (just two setscrews, 6Nm torque). Be sure to brake fluid away the electical contacts. DO NOT separate the from the ABS unit#33;

With the new part fitted the unit can be refitted into the

Connect VCDS and clear any codes.

Now use your pressure to ‘pre-bleed’ the hydraulics.

Firstly both front bleed and bleed simultaneously.

Then at the rear and bleed both brakes simultaneously.

Using connect to the braking controller. NO PRESSURE on the brake pedal the reading in Measurement Block 5 be within the range +/- 3.8 Bar. If it is of that range then go Measurement Block 66, login code 40 168 and perform a zero-point using the ‘Basic Settings’

Finally bleed the brakes in the manner (one brake at a FL, FR, RL, RR) to conclude the job and perform a road
